It was porn not Universal and Paramount that [may have] landed the fatal punch

As a big fan of Toshiba and friend of a number of people that work there, I have read with some sadness about the apparent demise of HD DVD, which seems to have lost the battle of the “high definition formats” against Blu Ray – though rumours about the end of the battle may have been greatly exaggerated if yesterday’s statement from Universal is to be believed.

But I did spot one story that suggests another factor for Blu Ray’s success… and while possible allegiance decisions by the major film studios will undoubtedly have a huge effect on the outcome of this battle, it is actually pornography that is, once again, dictating winners and losers.

“Sony has finally cracked and allowed pornographic film makers to release their movies on Blu-ray. Sony has always been a staunch adversary to the porn industry, and its insistence that porn not be released on Betamax is thought to be one of the main reasons for the format’s downfall in the 1980s.”

Maybe both formats will fail because apparently, “Many porn stars don’t like the idea of HD porn because it tends to highlight the flaws in their appearance”
