Control or let the world decide..?

31 01 2007

PR Week (US) has reported that “Wikipedia will not be making any policy adjustments in the wake of Microsoft’s attempt to pay an expert to edit pages about the company’s products, according to Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.”  Why?  Surely it should…  Or should it..?  Is it because Microsoft was completely within its right to do what it did but most would agree that it goes against how consumer generated media should be managed?  The fact that this cannot (and should not) be policed means that it will always happen and few should be ‘outraged’ when it does.  But if companies do resort to these kind of activities, the world will judge – as this case has shown beyond any doubt…
